In 1985, Monica Frota, an independent Brazilian filmmaker, collaborated with the Kayapo people of the Brazilian rain forest to develop Mekaron Opoi D'joi (He Who Creates Images), the first Kayapo media project. This video chronicles the Kayapos' appropriation of video technology as a political and cultural weapon. Using footage shot by the Kayapo, archival footage, stills and computer animation, Taking Aim is a witty and provocative exploration of issues of power and representation, one which challenges the stereotypical portrayals of "traditional societies" perpetuated by conventional ethnographic film and video.
