This documentary examines one of the most significant holidays on the Mexican calendar, showing how it is celebrated today and tracing its historical background, which goes back 3,000 years. On November 1st, families commemorate the spirits of their loved ones in food, drink and song, and cemeteries become the sites of family reunions. Graves are decorated with flowers, drink, candy, and other favorite items of the departed. Death is regarded as a continuation of life and in the sharing of fond memories of the dead, a joy of life is reborn. The video also traces the origins of the holiday in ancient Aztec rituals, which were subsequently blended with Christian religious beliefs introduced by the Spanish.
