Profiles several different photojournalists, whose work offers a remarkable witness to current events, and who explain, in moving terms, what personally motivates their often dangerous efforts. The video focuses on three photographers from the New York-based Contact Press Images agency, whose photo projects in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Washington, D.C. grow out of their own strong interests in social issues or personal relationships; the legendary French photographer Gilles Carron, best known for his work during the Sixties in Biafra and Chad, and who disappeared mysteriously in Cambodia in 1970; and Russian photographer Igor Kostine, who has undertaken a clandestine project to photographically document the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
