FAMINE SHIP

Price: $210.00 Code: 1494 |
Filmed over a two-year period, this video traces the creation of sculptor John Behan's
"Famine Ship," a large bronze sculpture commissioned by the Irish Government in 1997
to commemorate the famine of 1845-47. We see the entire process, from artistic
conception to sketches, through model-making and the casting processing in the foundry,
to its unveiling at the foot of Croagh Patrick in County Mayo. We also gain a rare insight
into how an artist researches his project and acquires the inspiration necessary to convey,
through his work, the full horror of this historic tragedy.
