HÍBRIDOS, THE SPIRITS OF BRAZIL is an ethnomusicological journey into the sacred culture of Brazil, from Roman Catholic to Ubanda and candomblé--mixures of African traditions with Catholicism. A result of four years of research, French artists and filmmakers Vincent Moon and Priscilla Telmon break down the distance between viewer and subject, guiding them through a realm of movements, non-stop dances, and music pulsating at high rhythms, exploring the relationship between trance, ecstasy, music, apparitions and spiritual rituals.

Traditional song accompanies many of the rituals, and the ceremonies include a shamanistic ritual performed by indigenous people in Mato Grosso, modern evangelical practices in Rio de Janeiro, a faith-healing ceremony at a spiritual center, and the largest Catholic procession in the world, in the Amazonian city of Belém.

With no narration and only the sounds of rituals and the chants of the devotees, HÍBRIDOS is a music film of a new kind.
